This is Suzi's latest adventure. I heard her barking but I didn't see her on the sofa or the chair. Even looked in the bedroom but didn't see her. Then I heard her bark again. The little stinker jumped up on the chair and then explored the coffee table. I thought I had the house puppy- proofed...guess not:-)))

This is Suzi's latest perch. Obviously she is going to be a jumper. Only problem, she can't get down:-))) My furniture is definitely going to suffer with this little one. When I go looking for her, I will definitely have to look up!

The dishwasher had just finished a load and I opened it up to let it air dry. Apparently Suzi decided that it was a nice warm place to lay down. She stayed there for about 5 minutes, long enough for me to get my camera.

My great nephews and the puppies The longest and most flexible dachshund! Here we have Mount Pooh:-) Suzi's favorite toy...carries it around whining and trying to find some place to bury it. Amazingly it was the first Suzi's favorite toy! This is Polly looking well-behaved:-))) Nap time with Pooh. Sharing a treat. Suzi playing hide and seek.

Hi Deb, The puppies are really growing. They are both 6 1/2 lbs. and they went to the vet last week and got spayed. This week we are starting training on the Invisible Fence. I can hardly wait because they chase and play and get all tangled up on their leads. Here are some of the latest pictures of the girls.
Enjoy.

Hi Deb,
Thought I would give you an update on Suzi and Polly. They are doing quite well. They really enjoy going outside now that the snow is gone. They have also gotten very good about letting me know when they need to go outside. I put a bell up on the door and they go to the door and jump on the bell, at least most of the time. We do have an occasional accident but they improve every day. They are getting very good at sitting, going down, come and we are working on stay. They have been to the local pet stores, visit the vet just for fun and are good on the leash, most of the time. Still working on heel but they follow me well. They have both passed the 5 lb. mark and continue to grow. I did come down with a chest cold which was not good as I have asthma. It has slowed down their training sessions but as the weather warms, I plan on taking them to the park to work with them there so that they get used to the distractions. We love them and they are so cute. People stop on the road when they are outside playing. Everyone who has seen them falls in love with them. Enjoy the warm weather.

Here are some recent photos. You will notice that they are getting bigger and can sleep anywhere and in almost any position.

Hi Deb,
Thought you might be interested in the puppies first adventure out to puppy class last night.
There was a German Shepherd 'puppy' who was 16 weeks old and weighed 26 lbs. Also an American Bulldog 'puppy' who was about 14 weeks old and weighed about 20 lbs. Then there was Suzi and Polly at 3.75 and 3.5 lbs. It was really interesting to see how they acted in a strange setting.
I was actually very surprised that Polly was the more calm and curious of the two. Suzi whimpered and whined and hid behind my feet when the puppies had play time. Polly wandered around for awhile until the larger dogs became more active in their play. The puppies were passed around from person to person and both Suzi and Polly did well with that. But as soon as the trainer started talking after the pass-around, and Suzi was in someone else's hands, for at least 10 minutes, she was very unhappy. Polly ended up with me so that probably helped her to stay calmer.
There is another class next week and we will be there and I am hoping that Suzi will be a little more used to the situation and be a little more brave. Polly will probably be out there chasing with the 'big' dogs.
We continue to work on potty training with more success than failure. And they continue to play nice. They are learning to be on the leash, to come, to sit and to go down. It is fun working with them, but a challenge with two.

Hi Deb,
I thought you might enjoy a few of the current pictures of Suzi and Polly. I took your advice on Suzi's aggressiveness and it has worked well. She is playing nicer now. I have also been working with them on the leash, sitting and coming. They do respond very well to treats! This Wednesday I am taking them to puppy classes that my vet is having at her clinic. I think it will be good for them to be around other puppies and people. I will let you know how they do.
Here are Suzi and Polly enjoying a new toy frog. Sometimes Suzi will steal the toy and run with it.
I got them to sit for this picture. After trying to get them to sit, I am impressed with all the puppy pictures that you take!
Obviously, Suzi likes the snow:-) When it warms up I think it will be easier to get Polly trained to go out. They have taken to Pooh like she was their mom!

Hi Deb,
We are having a lot of snow here the past 3 days. The storm has been slow moving and has dumped around 10 inches on us, The puppies have reacted quite differently to it. Suzi loves it and runs into the deeper stuff, almost disappearing. Polly will go out but doesn't really like to stay out. Suzi has become quite good at doing both her jobs outside with only an occasional accident inside and that is usually on the potty pad. Polly is good at going out and doing #1 but doesn't seem to want to stay out long enough to complete #2. I have figured out when they will need to do #2 and have tried to keep Polly out long enough to get it done but she keeps running back to the door. You might know as soon as we get in, she finds a place to do #2. She is a work in progress and I am sure we will be successful, just needs a little more time.
There is one question I have for you. I know that play fighting is an important social interaction for them and they have a lot of fun doing it. The problem I see is that Suzi gets a little too excited and aggressive doing it and sometimes will not let go when Polly yelps and cries. I have tried distracting them with a toy, picking one or both of them up, and grabbing Suzi and holding her in a submissive position until she calms down. Is this something that they will grow out of or anything that I should be concerned about. I don't want Suzi to grow up and be an aggressive dog. Do you have any suggestions? Is there something that I should be doing differently?
Judy
These were taken out on our deck. I got them little shirts to help keep them warmer outside.
This is Polly going up the ramp off our deck. It is there for the older dog to use and the puppies have learned to use it quite well. We have one out front too. This is Suzi doing her thing on the deck.

Hi Deb,
I love the website. Here are a few more pictures to add.
The girls slept very well last night and are no longer in the bathroom; only getting me up once. Their kennel is next to the bed. Suzi has graduated to going out into the yard to potty. Polly is still a little shy about going that far but they are both making wonderful progress.
Pooh, our 13 year old dog, is become more comfortable with them as long as she is up on the sofa. Still a little skittish when they are running around her legs. But they have taken to her like she was their mother, nudging at her nipples and snuggling up with her to sleep as you can see by their pictures.
Everyone who sees them falls in love with them:-)

Hi Deb,
Just wanted to update you on their first day in their new home.
They are doing well. They were very high energy last night, getting to sleep about 11:00 p.m. Slept for two hours then started whining so I held them for a few minutes, then put them back in the bathroom. They played for about 30 minutes and then crawled into their kennels to sleep. That lasted for at least 3 hours. So far today, we have been working on doing their potty outside. There have been a few accidents, but it is starting to come back to me what to look for. They are even going to the back door so I can let them out to go on the pad I put on the deck. Definite progress. They are very playful and really enjoy running up and down the ramp chasing each other. They have even figured out how to go up the doggie steps by the sofa. That is where I have been putting Pooh so that she is out of their way. Her energy level is not even close to what the puppies are capable of. Suzi was wandering around whimpering I picked her up and started looking for where Polly had gotten to. They both like to run under the sofa so they disappear from sight and pop up on the other side. I walked around to the other side of the sofa and there she was, resting on the cushion at the opposite end as Pooh. Really cute. I did get Pooh to let Polly lay next to her and they licked each other. So far Pooh hasn't taken to Suzi that way because Suzi is just a little more aggressive. We continue to let Pooh know that it is o.k. and also let the puppies know when Pooh has had enough. When they go up, I let them down just to make sure they don't fall on the step. They have both accomplished this. Amazing!

Hi Deb,
We made it in much better time going home as the roads had cleared quite a bit. The puppies slept most of the way, although Suzi did keep an eye on me. We did make one stop just before getting to ****** and I took them out to go. Polly went but Suzi didn't seem interested. Neither one of them wanted to play around because we have snow on the ground and the temperatures here is 8. They ate and drank, and now they are exploring our sun room. Our other dog, Pooh was quite interested in them, but after a few minutes I think they had too much energy for her so I put her up out of the way. I am sure that she will get used to all of the activity but will make sure they are all supervised. Both Suzi and Polly have found a way to get up the one step we have going into the sun room. They also are learning how to use the ramp that we have at that step. They have taken to my husband, Rick, and I think he likes them too. Right now they are doing a little whining as I left them in the pen so I could get this email off to you. Well, it has been a long day and I am going to go finish my supper. We will keep you posted on their progress.
Thanks again.
Judy
